Where can we collect provisions?
- Ararat is approximately 10 mins from Westgate and has IGA, Aldi and Safeway. Safeway is on the highway just past McDonalds. Stawell has Safeway and IGA which are located in the town proper – not on the highway. All the supermarkets are open til approx. 10pm and have liquor outlets.
- The Great Western General Store is open from 7am to 7pm for milk, bread, papers and excellent bacon and egg sandwiches all day.
How do we find Westgate?
- From the Ring Road/Western Highway interchange we are an easy 2 hour drive along the Western Highway bypassing Ballarat. The highway passes through Beaufort and Ararat.
- From Ararat we are approx. 10km on the Western Highway. Turn left at Garden Gully Road (big green sign) and continue along this road for approx. 1km to Westgate Road. Turn left onto Westgate Road and go up this road for approx. 2km. We are on the right and have big wooden gate posts with 180 Westgate on the post. The house is approx. 400 metres along this driveway.
- Westgate Road is gravel and is ‘usually’ in good condition, however, depending on the weather and the season it can become corrugated and/or slippery. We also have kangaroos that live in the area and they have right of way at all times. Please drive carefully and slowly.
How far are we from the Grampians?
- The Grampians are a pleasant 30min drive though vineyard and farm country.
Is Westgate a working farm?
- Yes. We have sheep, cattle, horses and 2 alpacas and of course, the vineyard.
- All our animals are very quiet, however, please do not feed them and approach them with caution. The horses and dogs will love a pat but the sheep, cattle and alpacas are not quite so friendly!
- You are welcome to walk around the farm but please remember to leave gates as you find them. Unfortunately, due to insurance limitations, we cannot involve you in farm activities.
